U.S Cancels Travel Warning for Nepal
On February 29, 2016, about one year after the earthquake in Nepal, the U.S. Department of State formally canceled its travel warning for Nepal, according to the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu.
The travel warning was issued on October 8, 2015, following the ongoing geological instability in Nepal accompanied by some hidden security problems. But with the whole nation’s efforts and international support, the condition of Nepal has improved. As it is safe to travel to Nepal, the US government decided to lift the travel warning.
Boudha Stupa in Nepal
Currently, most of the hot travel attractions in Nepal are accessible to visitors. Actually, the majority of the architectural complexes in Kathmandu reopened to the public last June, including Kumari Temple, Taleju Temple, Swayambhunath, Boundhanath Stupa, and Changu Narayan Temple. Pokhara and Chitwan, which evaded the wrecking of the disaster, greet travelers with amazing sceneries and lots of outdoor activities. Trekking routes, except Langtang and Manaslu, are also available.
The earthquake caused massive losses and damage to all respects of social life in Nepal, especially the economy. According to US Geological Survey reports, the economic loss caused by the earthquake is estimated to be $10 billion- nearly half of the nation’s GDP ($19.2 billion). The cost of rebuilding could be $5 billion. Now the rebuilding is in progress but unemployment and homelessness still exist. Tourism plays a crucial role in Nepal’s economy, with its revenue accounting for 70 percent of the country’s GDP. After the devastating earthquake, it became significant to the country’s recovery. It’s believed that each tour to Nepal will make a contribution to its reconstruction.
