Sri Lanka is an incredible destination for its wildlife, beaches, and culture. Many travelers are concerned about when to visit Sri Lanka, so when our travel expert Zoe recently returned from Sri Lanka, she came to know the weather conditions of the country and would like to share with you the best time to visit the country. Let's see what she said and hope this will give you some holiday ideas.
Sri Lanka Summer Beach
Sri Lanka is a year-round destination with annual average temperatures ranging from 25 to 27 Celsius degree. But located in the tropical region it is affected by two annual monsoons with two distinctive seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season is a good time for visiting though it occurs at different times in different regions. From May to later September, the Yala monsoon brings rains to the southwest coast and central hills, so the best time to visit Sri Lanka's south and west, like Negombo, Colombo, Pinnawela, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Galle, etc. will be from December to March during its dry season. For the western and eastern destinations like Sigiriya, Trincomalee, etc. the best travel time is from May to September so as to avoid the monsoon rains from October to January.
Generally speaking, if you're planning a trip to cover most destinations of Sri Lanka, the best time is from January to April. May, June, and December are good times to visit but be aware of other factors such as cyclones. From July to November, travel is possible but this is not the best time of the year.
